A Perfect Match

By working in the intersection between government, university, private enterprise, and not-for-profit endeavors, RENCI harnesses the strengths of each sector in collaborations that support decision making, encourage community engagement, and catalyze local economic development.

As an example, RENCI, UNC Asheville’s National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center (NEMAC), The Media Arts Project, and The Elumenati have created a film series for the immersive GeoDome platform titled Water in Western North Carolina. This film series has received positive reviews at the Digital Earth conference in San Francisco. In addition, RENCI servers that provide comprehensive geospatial data to the City of Asheville and Buncombe County are already in place at RENCI Partner ERC Broadband and are connected to the North Carolina Research and Education Network.

The Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) is a major collaborative venture of Duke University and North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the State of North Carolina. RENCI currently focuses on two broad issues that affect the economic vitality of North Carolina and the well being of its citizens: disaster planning, mitigation, and response; and bioinformatics, genomics, and disease. www.renci.org
